Chelsea were heading for a tenth league defeat of the season against Southampton at the St Mary’s Stadium on Wednesday until the Blues scored three goals in a space of nine minutes to take all three points.
Olivier Giroud was introduced after the hour mark in that game, and his introduction sparked a Chelsea revival.
Chelsea skipper Gary Cahill has praised the Frenchman for the impact he had in the game.
“The first goal was massive,” he said. “I think because of the situation Southampton find themselves in at the moment, being 2-0 up was a big confidence boost for them, but when they conceded they maybe got a little bit shaky and feared the worst.
“Credit to Olivier, he had a massive impact when he came on – he was fantastic and got the goals we needed.”
