Transfer business beckons, as the curtain is set to be drawn on this season.  The past two transfer windows haven’t been exciting and rewarding for us, considering we are yet to enjoy reasonable returns on them. Alvaro Morata is our biggest signing from last summer, and even he hasn’t quite taken off. Tiemoue Bakayoko is yet to prove he is an able replacement for Nemanja Matic. Ross Barkley and Danny Drinkwater have been injury prone, and Emerson is yet to really get his chance.

The poor quality that came in last summer and in January have contributed to our poor title defence. If they had all turned up, it’d be a different situation, actually.

So we’ll be going back to the transfer market to reinforce and equip ourselves, ready to fight for the title next season, but the question is, where should we really strengthen? What positions are in dire need of reinforcements?

We currently have a lot of forward players, but not enough finishers. Part of the reasons we’ve suffered so much this season is because we have been wasteful in front of goal. Morata, our main man has probably missed more than he has converted.

Giroud appears to be taking a while to fit in, but you can’t blame him either because he hasn’t played enough. Batshuayi is on loan, and may return soon, and while he’s doing well in Germany, he struggled for Chelsea .

Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpilicueta have been quite good this season, but we might need a quality defender to challenge for next season, especially if we go back to four at the back. David Luiz and Gary Cahill have reached the latter stages of their career, while Rudiger  and Christensen are still learning their trade.

Moses was perhaps the best in that position last season, but he’s been far from it this term. So we need quality in that role as well. Davide Zappacosta hasn’t also impressed and Moses has gone totally complacent and comfortable. He needs to be shaken up a little. Our football last season was effective because of the quality of display from the wing-backs, but they have been far from it this season.

N’Golo Kante is presently the only real presence we have in central midfield. Cesc Fabregas seems a little off it this term, Drinkwater has been decent, and if we go into next season like that, we will be exploited still. Bakayoko was originally meant to partner Kante there, but he’s been a total mess. So we ought to get a top player in that holding or attacking position, and we should be good.

The way I see it, we need some reinforcement in literally all areas of the team. It’s the only way forward from where we stand. If we can add at least, four new players, I think we’ll be refreshed enough to go again.

What makes him perfect for this blog? He lives for Chelsea FC, in fact, I heard he sat in the middle of a road, and refused to go home after that bitter loss to Barcelona in 2009. Haha.
