Chelsea legend Dennis Wise has slammed Marcos Alonso for his performance in Chelsea’s 3-2 win over Southampton on Saturday.

Chelsea fought back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at the St Mary’s Stadium.

Wise wasn’t pleased with Alonso’s role in the first goal Chelsea conceded and the Chelsea legend claimed Alonso showed no desire.

“We were talking about the wing-backs and (David) Zappacosta gets sucked in to a position, I think (Cesar) Azpilicueta is out of position,” Wise said on Sky Sports.

“What annoys me and frustrates me is Alonso’s attitude and where Southampton lost it and where they picked it up.

“He needs desire to come back into the game, he doesn’t show that. He jogs and he jogs the whole way.

“He could have got himself back in position which could have helped the team and got them out of a sticky situation, where they had a one-on-one situation. But he showed no desire.”

Wise also thinks Alonso should have been sent off for a first-half tackle on Shane Long.

“That’s a red card,” Wise added.

“I’m a Chelsea boy but I have done one or two of them in my career and I should have gone.

“He hasn’t even bothered with the ball. The frustration after that was that (James) Ward-Prowse got booked because he realised what Alonso had done to Long.

“He’s reacted to that, frustration, and he gets a yellow card.”
