Chelsea under-18s recorded an impressive 4-0 victory over Southampton to move them a point away from the southern title. It is now over three years the Chelsea youth team have been undefeated at home.
Six starters from Wednesday’s FA Youth Cup win at Birmingham City retained their place in the team for the visit of Southampton, who are the only side to have recorded a win against our youth team this season.
Tariq Uwakwe fired us in front just before the break. Three further goals in seven minutes after the restart sealed the points as Martell Taylor-Crossdale, Tino Anjorin and Marc Guehi all netted to secure a 13th win in a row for the young Blues, who will retain the Under-18 Premier League South title with a point away at West Ham next weekend.
Chelsea goalkeeper Karlo Ziger remained alert to preserve a clean sheet late in the game, our eighth in nine games and 20th of another impressive term. Arsenal’s home defeat at the hands of Leicester City meant our lead at the top of the Under-18 Premier League South extends to 12 points, meaning a draw away at West Ham next weekend will secure a fourth consecutive southern title.
