Antonio Rudiger was completely left out of Chelsea’s 18-man squad for the 3-2 win against Southampton last Saturday, after the German seemed to have questioned Conte’s tactics.

However, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has confirmed he dropped Rudiger against the Saints for ‘tactical’ reasons and also revealed the German did not criticise his decision.

Conte claims it was a tactical decision, and the 25-year-old could feature in today’s game against Burnley.

“No I think first of all he didn’t say anything wrong,” said Conte. “I can confirm it was a tactical decision.

“Why not? [Return against Burnley]. Maybe tomorrow.”
