Antonio Conte cut a frustrated figure on the sideline as Chelsea were beaten 3-1 by Tottenham at Stamford Bridge on Sunday evening.
It was a game Chelsea had to win to keep up hopes of finishing in the top four, but the team lost the game having taken the lead in the first half.
Christian Eriksen scored the equaliser for Spurs just at the stroke of half-time. Dele Alli scored two goals within four minutes in the second half to hand Spurs the victory, and a frustrated Conte kicked a water bottle as the third goal went in.
Conte was asked why he kicked a water bottle after Dele Alli scored the third goal for Tottenham. He responded: “It happened after the third goal, yes. For sure, there was great frustration to concede a stupid goal in this way. Instead of putting the ball in the stand. I did this with the bottle of water.
“Maybe I wanted to play in that moment and shoot the ball in the stand. But, I repeat, there are a lot of players with not great experience and they have to gain that experience also with mistakes. We must have patience.”
