Olivier Giroud has been Antonio Conte’s first choice striker in recent games, with Alvaro Morata fluffing his lines for most part of the season.

However, Arsenal legend and football pundit Martin keown believes that Morata’s performance against Southampton in the FA Cup semifinal clash on Sunday will give Conte something to think about.

Morata had a good game on Sunday, and it took him 86 seconds to find the net just after replacing the Frenchman, and his performance was generally great.

“He came on like an angry man [Morata] and there’s competition now for Giroud,” Keown said on a BBC Sport highlights show of the game.

“Arguably each one does better when they come off the bench.

“It’s a very difficult decision for Conte.

They didn’t have a striker just a few months ago, but now they have two very good ones going into the final.”

Morata has struggled since the turn of the new year and has just netted three times in his past 19 outings for the Blues but Keown thinks the 25-year-old can still turn around his season should he lift some silverware, adding: “Morata could have had a couple when he came on – the header he scored was textbook.

“With a point to prove, he can still have a very good season, because there’s an FA Cup to win.”
