One of the reasons for Chelsea’s inconsistent season so far has been the poor form of some players who have failed to deliver so far.
Here are 5 players who need to prove themselves to save their Chelsea future:
The French midfielder has endured a miserable start to his Chelsea career. Series of error-prone, underwhelming and lethargic performances cost Chelsea so badly this season (notably the game against Watford). Arguably, the midfielder was bought to replace the departed Nemanja Matic, but has failed to live up to expectations in his first season at the club. Former Chelsea midfielder & legend, Frank Lampard gave a stinging assessment of the player’s torrid season:
“When you sign for Chelsea you have to understand that you’re never the only player for a position. There is always someone else knocking on the door.
“The pressure should be coming from within. Chelsea paid Monaco £40m for him – and that brings expectation. He has to live up to that on the pitch.
“The way Chelsea play means he has to be disciplined in midfield, as Conte wants the wing-backs high up the pitch.
“I initially thought he could be compared to Yaya Toure, however, I don’t see that so much now.”
Bakayoko surely needs to raise his game or face being labelled a failure and having his Chelsea career cut short.
The deadline day summer signing has not really had the opportunities he had hoped for. This is due to recurring injury problems that plagued the start of his Chelsea career. However, the England International has not really been up to speed in the few games he has played this season and would really have a lot to prove when he makes his return to the team this season and even beyond.
The gifted and technically superb player, like Drinkwater has endured a difficult start life to his Chelsea career due to injury. Despite being superb for Everton, there are still doubts if Barkley can make a name on the biggest stage at a big club like Chelsea. Much conviction will be needed from Barkley to dispel the doubts and also be a key player for Chelsea.
The Spaniard’s start to his Chelsea career was pure bliss before a mid-season dry spell that he’s yet to recover from. Morata is still to convince his doubters that he can be the leading marksman and a key player for Chelsea. Though his talent is not in doubt, but the finesse in his game is lacking. Seen as being too nice, soft and fragile, the Spaniard must do well to step up or may go down in Chelsea’s history as another striker who failed at the club.
A surprise inclusion in this list I guess, but truth be told the Belgian goalie has been far from his very best this season. Error-prone performances and inability to command his area have been badly exposed as his flaws this season. With just a year remaining on his contract, it’s boom or doom for big goalie as the club must just decide to cash in on him for good.

Let’s hope for the best. Cheers!
