Opta have revealed their team of the season based entirely on hard facts and statistical measures and two Chelsea players made the cut.
Opta created their team of the season by using more than 300 different metrics in a variety of categories and it’s really tough to argue with the final selection.
Each metric is awarded a positive or negative and the final total reflects how a player has performed over the course of the year. An example of a negative would be an error leading to a goal or a shot off target for a forward, a report on Daily Mail explains.
Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpilicueta made Opta’s Team of the Season.
Rudiger started 25 of 38 Premier League games for Chelsea this season. Chelsea won 64 per cent of league games Rudiger started and conceded double our average goals when he wasn’t picked.
Azpilicueta was consistent for Chelsea all season despite the team’s woes this season.
