It’s been quite melancholic since the end of the league season. With all eyes fixed on the transfer market, Champions League finals (especially if you’re a Liverpool or Madrid fan) and the World Cup in Russia, but for Chelsea fans, the situation at the club looks far from being crystal clear with regards to the future of Head Coach, Antonio Conte.
With speculations rife about the imminent departure of the Italian, one wonders when this will happen. The club’s silence and hesitancy over this issue clearly doesn’t help matters. Clearly, there will be no need for the club to waste so much time in decision-making, only to then carry out a fire brigade approach to the situation. The decision to replace Conte need to be critically assessed before anything is rubber stamped.
Here are 3 reasons why making the right decision will be crucial:
FEW AVAILABLE TOP MANAGERS:
The possibility of having a top manager to replace Conte is very crucial. With few top managers available, this is a very tricky decision for the board to make. With just Maurizio Sarri and Luis Enrique the potential available top managers (with both already linked to several clubs), every other top manager is contracted to a club, except the club is ready to give a fast rising manager a chance to build his reputation at the club or pay a compensation or release clause fee for a manager of their choice. They need to act smart.
TO AVOID NO SUMMER PLANNING DELAYS:
One major criticism fired at the Chelsea board last season was the haphazard manner of our transfer business. The habit of knee jerk transfer business which resulted in the club buying quantity over quality can be erased with the right decision over our managerial uncertainty. If the Italian is to stay or leave or a new manager is appointed, then getting it right in the transfer market will be crucial. If a new manager comes in, then he can identify and buy the players he needs in time. With the potentiality of transfer fees skyrocketing after the World Cup, the decision to replace Conte needs to be taken quickly and smartly.
TO DECIDE FUTURE OF KEY PLAYERS:
The club’s decision to replace Conte needs to be smartly right. This will also decide the future of key players as many of them are waiting to know the next managerial appointment of the club. More so, the reported strain in the relationship between Conte and some players should be in hindsight as a decision is being made (the Willian & Luiz sagas still in mind). Turn a blind eye to it and their strained relationship might flare up into a blazing inferno. Hence, having a disruptive dressing room will do no good to the club’s ambitions for next season.
Let’s hope for the best. Cheers!
