It’s all over for Chelsea’s Champions League dream as our 1-1 draw against Huddersfield proved costly.
Here are 3 quick thoughts from the game:
CHELSEA FAIL TO KEEP HOPES ALIVE:
A frustrating defensive display by Huddersfield was enough to deal a big blow to Chelsea’s Champions league ambitions. A pedestrian display by Conte’s team in the first half coupled with a useless defensive blunder allowed David Wagner’s team take the lead in the opening period of the second half. Despite Marcos Alonso’s equaliser and a flurry of chances to find the decisive goal, Chelsea’s bridges came falling down as Huddersfield grabbed a vital point that ensured their survival.
CHELSEA LACKED FIREPOWER IN ATTACK:
This has been the theme of Chelsea’s season. Our lack of firepower came to fore against Huddersfield as our inability to break down their well-drilled and organised defence was glaring for all to see. This issue has proved costly this season and is certainly one that needs to be addressed in the summer.
CHELSEA’S FRINGE PLAYERS FAIL TO STEP UP:
It was a disappointing game for Chelsea’s fringe players as they failed to take their chances. The likes of Zappacosta, Pedro, Morata and even Willian failed to get Chelsea going in the first period. Their lack of cohesive and incisive play made things difficult for Chelsea. Certainly, their chance of making the team for the FA Cup final is seriously in doubt.
Let’s still hope for the best. Cheers!
