Lots of changes are needed at Chelsea after a season in which we finished fifth and missed out on Champions League qualification.

What Chelsea need to do this summer is buy quality players and promote some of our quality youngsters to the first team. I believe promoting youngsters is more rewarding than buying average players.

Here are five Chelsea wonderkids that deserve more chances in the first-team next season

1. MASON MOUNT

Chelsea youngster Mason Mount deserves a place in the first team next season after an impressive loan spell at Vitesse Arnhem. The 19-year-old midfielder made 38 appearances for Vitesse this season, scoring 14 goals and providing seven assists. His impact looks more impressive given he was not a regular in the first 11 until November.

2. ETHAN AMPADU

The 17-year-old joined Chelsea from Exeter City last summer. Antonio Conte gave him his Chelsea first team debut this season and he has never looked out of place every time he played for the first team. Ampadu made three FA Cup appearances, three in the Carabao Cup and a Premier League appearance against Huddersfield Town. The youngster has already had two caps for Wales and looks like the real deal. He deserves more chances in the first team next season.

3. CALLUM HUDSON-ODOI

The 17-year-old attacker scored a brace against Arsenal as Chelsea won the FA Youth Cup this season. Hudson-Odoi plays without fear and has shown a great amount of skill, along with a good range of passing as well. Hudson-Odoi is yet to make a first team start but has made substitute appearances in FA Cup games against Newcastle and Hull, plus in the Premier League against Bournemouth. The youngster deserves more chances in the first team next season.

4. REECE JAMES

Chelsea youngster Reece James can play in defence or midfied but he’s unstoppable when he plays in defence as a right-back. The youngster has a lot of pace and is also good defensively. Victor Moses and Davide Zappacosta have both struggled to put in quality crosses into the box for Chelsea this season and James can help the first team with his quality crosses next season. James was named Chelsea’s Academy Player of the Year 2018.

5. TREVOH CHALOBAH

Trevoh Chalobah is the younger brother of former Chelsea midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah. Trevoh has the potential to be an even better player than Nathaniel. The 18-year-old centre-back is tall, good on the ball and also quick.
