Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Liverpool on Sunday closed the gap to the four.

Chelsea star Marcos Alonso has revealed staying compact and not allowing Liverpool spaces to run into helped Chelsea beat Liverpool.

“It was a very good win. The team was playing a very serious game, very compact, not allowing any spaces for them to run or to have time to think. We defended very well, leaving everything on the pitch,” Alonso said as quoted on Chelsea’s official website.

“We kept them quiet, a clean sheet was very important. We played a great game and got a massive three points to keep the pressure on those teams above us.”

Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud scored the only goal of the game and Alonso praised the France international for his impact since joining Chelsea in January.

“We know that he’s doing great things since he arrived,” Alonso added.

“He’s giving everything on the pitch and we’re very happy for him and I hope he keeps scoring goals.”
