Olivier Giroud joined Chelsea from London rivals Arsenal, in the January transfer window, and the 31-year-old has already won the approval of the Stamford Bridge faithful.
Chelsea fans were a bit unsure of what the former Arsenal striker will offer the club, but the France international has been an important player for Chelsea this season, and has even usurped Alvaro Morata as the club’s first-choice striker.
Speaking to the Chelsea magazine, Giroud revealed that he is pleased to have the backing of the fans.
“When I first arrived I was hearing a noise like “ooo” and I wasn’t sure if it was ‘Giroud’ or ‘boo’,” he joked.
“I remembered Ruud van Nistelrooy, they used to shout his name like that, ‘Ruuuud’, so then I realised they were doing that for me. It’s nice. I could feel from the start the Chelsea fans are behind me.
“They see I want to give everything, 100 per cent, always, for the team. That’s most important for the fans, to give everything, and give back to them the same confidence they give me.”
