Former Chelsea striker Diego Costa scored Atletico Madrid’s only goal in Spain to earn Diego Simeone’s side a 2-1 aggregate win against Arsenal on Thursday.
Costa was allowed to leave Chelsea last summer after falling out with Antonio Conte and the Blues signed Alvaro Morata as his replacement. But the £58m signing has failed to fill the boots of his international teammate at Chelsea.
Costa was a thorn in the flesh against Arsenal while playing for the Blues, and the Spain international scored the goal that ensured Arsene Wenger’s side are knocked out of the Europa League.
Chelsea fans still adore Costa, and former Tottenham player Jermaine Jenas believes they would have been sickened to see how well he performed against the Gunners.
“Any Chelsea fans watching him [Costa] tonight must feel sick,” Jenas told BT Sport.
“That’s how good he was.”
Martin Keown, who was in the studio with Jenas, said Costa wasn’t even fully fit. He added: “He was only 80% fit!”
