Chelsea have ended the 2017/18 Premier League season in an embarrassing manner after losing to Newcastle 3-0 at the St James Park.

It was a bad campaign for Antonio Conte’s men, and Jamie Redknapp has put it down to the Italian’s transfer business during the summer.

Conte decided to sell two key players in Diego Costa and Nemanja Matic, and the club bought Tiemoue Bakayoko and Alvaro Morata to replace them, but the pair have failed to do just that, and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp has revealed where he got it wrong.

He told Sky Sports: “This year, they sold [Diego] Costa and replaced him with [Alvaro Morata], that didn’t work. They replaced [Nemanja] Matic with Bakayoko – that definitely didn’t work.

“The squad and the team have been weakened and the manager has been overcome by the situation.

“You can see he looks a beaten man. He’s certainly not a bad manager but I would be amazed if we see him on the touchline here next season.”
