When Michael Ballack was at Chelsea, the Blues were the dominant side in England and was feared all over Europe, but times seem to have changed as Chelsea have missed a Champions League spot twice in three years.

Ballack has revealed his disappointment at the current state of the club and has told the club to take a different path. The former Blue has advised the club to integrate the youth players into the senior team.

Ballack said: “It’s not always about spending the big money, taking risks, relying on one or two players. Maybe it’s time also to go in a different way for Chelsea.

“They have a really good youth team. Good young talent which you can work with. Finishing fifth is not good enough for Chelsea. They were in a better situation years ago.

“In the last three season they haven’t qualified for the Champions League twice. It’s a sign, it’s a development with which you have to be careful.”
