Former Roma manager Maurizio Sarri has been strongly linked with the Chelsea job, but that appears to have broken down after Aurelio De Laurentiis, the Serie A club’s president has played hardball with Sarri’s contract despite giving him the sack.
Laurentiis is still said to be demanding €8million in compensation, despite his release clause having expired earlier this week. This might have angered the Chelsea board who are now looking elsewhere for an alternative.
Rumours are now claiming that Chelsea are set to replace Antonio Conte with Luis Enrique and appoint the former Barcelona man as their new manager ‘in the next few days’, according to reports in Spain.
Some other reports claim Chelsea are also considering former PSG boss Laurent Blanc. However, one thing that’s consistent with recent rumours is that the Blues might appoint a new manager next week. Some weird rumours have also reported that former interim boss Avram Grant is in the running for the job.
