Chelsea’s hopes of keeping Eden Hazard have been given a significant boost following Zinedine Zidane’s decision to quit as Real Madrid boss, claims Evening Standard.
Zidane was pushing the Real Madrid hierarchy to make a bid for the 27-year-old this summer and given that Hazard has always spoken of how Zidane was his idol growing up, it was feared Hazard could leave Stamford Bridge this summer.
Following Zidane’s resignation, Real Madrid have reportedly decided not to make buying Hazard a priority.
The Real Madrid hierarchy want Isco and Marco Asensio to feature prominently and have decided against selling Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale.
Instead of pushing for a deal for Hazard, Real Madrid will reportedly focus on strengthening other areas of the pitch, particularly at centre forward.
