Kylian Mbappe’s goal in the first half was enough for Didier Deschamps’ side to secure their second win in Group C after they edged past Australia in their opening fixture last week and defeated Peru 1-0 on Thursday.

N’Golo Kante partnered Pogba in central midfield and played a key role as he neutralised Peru’s gameplay time after time.

France’s left-back Lucas Hernandez was also amazed by Kante’s display and admitted that the Chelsea man was just all over the pitch.

“N’Golo, you see him everywhere, all of a sudden he comes out of the ground!” he said.

“Frankly, it’s really amazing to play with a player like that, someone who wins you back I do not know how many balls in a match.

“I hope he continues like this.”
