France defeated Argentina 4-3 in a thrilling second round fixture that has seen N’Golo Kante and Olivier Giroud progress to the quarterfinals, while Willy Caballero head home.
Les Bleus who seemed less brilliant in the group stages despite topping their group, came alive in Kazan and their exciting young squad were too hot for the Argentines, as they displayed character after losing a lead soon after half-time to win the game.
Kante was typically influential in midfield, while Giroud consistently unsettled the Argentine backline and also set up a goal. For Kante, he wasn’t only useful in midfield against Lionel Messi and putting in those important tackles, but he was also useful when the team were in possession of the ball.
France will now take on either Portugal or Uruguay in the last eight on Friday. Argentina, and Willy Caballero, head home.
