Willian’s Chelsea career has been a beautiful story since he was signed under the noses of Spurs from Anzhi for over £30m in 2013. The player has risen to become an integral part of the Chelsea and an important player for the club. His feats of being honoured with the awards – Chelsea’s Player of the Year in 2016, and Chelsea’s Players Player of the Year last season. His all round displays have caught the eye on several occasions, even that of former Blues Coach, Jose Mourinho, and Spanish giants, Barcelona.

The player’s unrest with issues bubbling over his handling by Antonio Conte is certainly a sticking point in his Chelsea career. But with Conte likely to leave the club to be replaced by Maurizio Sarri, would Willian still want to leave the club? Should Chelsea sell the player if the price is right?

With reports already revealing the club has rejected an offer of £50m, let’s weigh the pros and cons of the Willian conundrum:

One major positive of Chelsea selling Willian will be that the club will make a huge profit from the deal. The club will likely receive a fee almost double the price he was bought which will be good for the financial book. This will also raise money for our transfer dealings.

Another strong point is the age factor. Chelsea have a policy of not signing players with no resale value. More so, the club only gives one year contracts to performing players who are 30 and above. With Willian approaching 30, and with just two years remaining to run on his current contract, the club might just likely feel this might be the perfect time to sell him to recoup a huge transfer fee.

The sale of Willian as a key player for the club will send the wrong signals within the Chelsea team and to other clubs that we are a selling club. More so, it might lead to an exodus of star players. Selling to Jose’s United will be another fire play considering we sold Matic to them last season which was heavily criticised. Worse still, we will end up strengthening a rival.

Willian’s status as one of Chelsea’s most consistent players makes selling him a dicey one. What do you think about this? You can share your thoughts on this in the comment zone. Cheers!
