Owing to his not-so-impressive second season in charge of Chelsea, many would have expected that by now, Antonio Conte would be gone and his traces erased from Stamford Bridge. However, even a month after the 2017/18 season ended, the man is still on the Chelsea job. His future has remained unsorted, and it doesn’t look like it’s changing in the immediate future.

There have been suggestive reports that Chelsea would sack the man and replace him with ex Napoli coach, Maurizio Sarri, and now Laurent Blanc has been touted as a possible replacement, but we are yet to see any of that come to be. It is becoming an issue of concern for Chelsea fans round the world, and rightly so.

There have been talk of a possible loss of interest in football on the part of owner, Roman Abramovich, due to the fact that he has failed to successfully renew his UK visa, and gaining Israeli citizenship recently, but that seems to be far from the reason Chelsea is delaying replacing Conte. More than anything, the payout clause attached to the Italian’s contract seems to be the issue.

Going by the contract terms, Chelsea will have to fork out money in the region of £9 million if they want to get rid of the Italian. The fee would be used as settlement to him and team for the termination of their contract. It is something the club can afford, but going by the sensitive nature of things at the moment, especially the finances, the management seems to be contemplating the rather unpleasant nature of losing money.

The other factor that is contributing to the situation is also about money. Apparently, to cancel Sarri’s contract with Napoli, the club would have to pay Napoli around £7 million. There have been efforts to beat it down to £5 million, but it hasn’t been successful.

It is really frustrating to see other clubs do business, and we can’t, but then, our reality is very different from theirs at the moment.

Whether we’ll sort this problem before the start of the World Cup remains to be seen, but all genuine Chelsea fans are yearning for some real update from the club as regards the next direction we’re taking as soon as possible.

King Jay is a writer/broadcaster with years of experience under his belt. His love affair with Chelsea actually began as a joke, but today, he stands tall as a die-hard blue. What makes him perfect for this blog? He lives for Chelsea FC, in fact, I heard he sat in the middle of a road, and refused to go home after that bitter loss to Barcelona in 2009. Haha.

It will be a waste of money to get Conte out and bring Sarri whose record is not near that of Conte in winning. Instead CFC should spend that money to give Conte quality players. Sometimes CFC Management sucks.
