Chelsea named a 25-man list for our pre-season before the commencement of the new season. With many of our first team players currently on break after their exertion at the World Cup in Russia, the list comprises mostly of youngsters, and then some first team players who did not participate at the global showpiece event.
The preseason is a training regimen that provides the manager time to perfect his ideas with his players and prepare them for the new season at peak level. After a disappointing season for the club in which we missed out on Champions League football with several players not performing at their best. This pre-season is an opportunity for them to improve their performance levels and prove a point to impress new Head Coach, Maurizio Sarri.
Here are 4 first team players with a point to prove during this pre-season:
The Spanish striker’s absence from Spain’s World Cup squad clearly showed his dismal form last season in which he struggled to hit the net consistently and also suffered from injury problems. Whether or not the striker can get his confidence back and recapture the great form he showed during the early stages of last season is anybody’s guess. Will the dismissal of Antonio Conte affect him? But with a full pre-season for him to play and get himself in top gear, Morata must banish the thoughts of perceived thoughts of him being fragile and unable to like Chelsea’s striking line. It’s time for him to live up to expectations.
The French midfielder was another expected omission from the World Cup list by his country. Bakayoko’s struggles last season were well-documented as he was often castigated for series of poor performances. He was unable to fill the void left by Nemanja Matic after his move to Manchester United. At 23, the player still has enough time to have a decent career. But this must start with decent displays in pre-season to make us believe he’s back to his best.
The Englishman endured a frustrating first season at the club as he was often plagued with injuries that derailed his opportunities. However, with him back to full fitness and in pre-season, now is the time for Danny to stake a place for a spot in the team for next season with good performances.
Another young hot prospect who is yet to prove his potentials. He had an injury-ravaged first season at Chelsea and is back to full fitness. With pre-season underway, this might just be Barkley’s chance to prove his doubters wrong with stellar performances and also convince Sarri that he’s worth a place in the Chelsea team.
Let’s hope for the best. Cheers
