When it comes to transfer frenzy, Chelsea have always been a targeted club for media speculation. Always, the club is linked to several players, and while some may be genuine, others have been cheap talk. But one name that has repeatedly being linked to Chelsea over and again is Napoli giant centre-back, Kalidou Koulibaly. The Senegalese International was a prime target of Ex-Blues boss, Antonio Conte, but Napoli’s reluctance to sell and only on their condition of an astronomical bid killed any hopes of the defender joining the club. His meteoric rise to prominence as being one of the world’s best centre-back has been swashbuckling.

With Maurizio Sarri now Chelsea’s Head Coach, surely the speculations will be rife as Koulibaly has been coached by the tactician at Napoli. A likely reunion has been mooted, but we wait to see if it will really unfold as predicted. Whether or not Chelsea sign Koulibaly, Sarri can take comfort in the fact that there’s already a player in the team that can step up and do a job for him like the Senegalese did for him. Step forward – Antonio Rudiger.

The German defender’s signing from Roma last summer was greeted with less fanfare. His signing was eclipsed by Manchester United’s signing of Romelu Lukaku and our signing of Alvaro Morata. After enduring a quiet start to his Chelsea career early last season, the German has gone from strength to strength to become a key player for the club. His solid performance in last season’s FA Cup in which he was awarded man of the match is a testament to his rising star rating. The German has even gone on to dislodge club captain, Gary Cahill from the first team.

Certainly I feel Rudiger can become Sarri’s version of Koulibaly at Chelsea. The German is big, strong, adept at defending and excellent in building play from the back. Without a doubt, Chelsea and Sarri can save some pounds this summer if only they can look within to find the ideal player that can lead Chelsea defence like Koulibaly.

The sky is blue. Cheers!
