While we count down to the start of the new league season, the clock is also ticking away to the close of the transfer window.
While other clubs have gone far in securing new deals ahead of next season, Chelsea have only recently completed the signing of Jorginho from Napoli, after many months of battling to sign Maurizio Sarri as the new manager. While we have now passed this stage, reality must dawn on us that we have about three weeks left in the transfer market.
The new Premier League season starts on August 10, and thanks to the new rules put in place by the Premier League, the transfer window will close before the start of the season. This is because clubs want it to coincide with the start of the season. Therefore, the transfer window closes at 5pm BST on Thursday, 9 August 2018, and not the usual August 31 deadline day.
While the Blues have been linked with a host of targets, signings must be fast-tracked so as to ensure we don’t enter yet another transfer deadline day scramble as we have done in recent years.
Chelsea will start the season away to Huddersfield on Saturday, August 11.
