One player who knows the true meaning of adversity at Chelsea is our No.8 Ross Barkley. The player has seen his stock rise and fall due to two long-term injuries he has suffered in his career so far. But the talented midfielder has displayed the mental strength to overcome setbacks and forge ahead. This is something he must do heading into next season.

Ross Barkley has been a phenomenal player since making it through the youth ranks into the first team at Everton. He was a pure attacking catalyst under both Roberto Martinez and Ronald Koeman. He has always been lauded for having the potentials to succeed at the highest level but has often found it difficult to do more than expected. Flashes of brilliance were often made to look obscure with non-performance in other games.

It’s hard not to feel the same way when he made his £15m move to Chelsea during the January winter transfer window. He was clearly forgotten by the Chelsea supporters until the last game of the season against Newcastle which the team was ruthlessly beaten by Rafa Benitez’s side. He could be forgiven for being missing so far in his Chelsea career as injuries have played a part. But next season is a defining season for Barkley. The club, fans and even manager will expect him to step up, deliver superb performances and make a difference.

Surely it’s time for Barkley to prove his worth and fulfill his potentials at Chelsea. He needs to show he belongs at the highest level.

Let’s hope for the best. Cheers!
