Chelsea captain Gary Cahill is reportedly considering his Chelsea future as Chelsea close in on a deal for Juventus defender Daniele Rugani.
According to Evening Standard, Cahill is thinking of quitting Chelsea after losing his place as a first team regular last season.
Former coach Antonio Conte preferred Antonio Rudiger in Cahill’s position on the left-side in the second half of the season. This meant Cahill missed some of Chelsea’s biggest games, including both legs of their last-16 Champions League tie against Barcelona.
Cahill, who is now on holiday, will seek talks with Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri on his return.
Cahill has reportedly told close friends that he wants assurances that he will feature more regularly than last season but Rugani close to joining Chelsea plus the other defenders in the squad, Sarri won’t be able to assure him of a regular first team place.
Sarri prefers to play with a back four, rather than the back three employed under Conte, meaning competition for centre-back places is bound to increase.
