England were in for a dramatic victory over Colombia in the World Cup second round clash, as the South American side made life a living hell for the Three Lions.
England were heading into the quarterfinal after Harry kane’s penalty in the 57th minute, but Yerry Mina scored a dramatic 93rd minute game to send a cracking game into extra time.
The game headed into penalties, and England looked to be heading out of the tournament after Ospina saved a penalty from Jordan Henderson. However, Jordan Pickford was the hero on the night when he saved a penalty to keep England ahead before Eric Dier netted the final shot that won the shootout for England.
Thibaut Courtois took a slight dig at Pickford after he let Januzaj’s shot sail above him in England’s 1-0 defeat against Belgium. Courtois said: “The goalkeeper is 10cm smaller than me. I would have caught it. He was too bust throwing his legs in the air.”
However, Pickford has now hit back at the Chelsea goalkeeper and justified his saving technique as he said: “I just set my way and went with power. I’ve got power and agility I don’t care if I’m not the biggest keeper but I’ve got the power and agility to help us get around the goal and I’m very good at it. It’s about making the save and being in the moment.”
