There have been a lot of shocking results in this World Cup, as we have seen the likes of Portugal, Argentina and Germany knocked out of the tournament.

On Sunday, Spain were knocked out of the World Cup by hosts, Russia in probably the most shocking result in the tournament.

Spain started positively and broke the deadlock as Sergei Ignashevich directed the ball into his own net in the 12th minute but the hosts found an equaliser just before half-time.

A Russian header from a corner struck Gerard Pique’s outstretched arm inside the penalty area and Artem Dzyuba scored with the resulting spot-kick.

Despite having 79 per cent possession of the ball, Spain couldn’t penetrate Russia’s strong defence and were finally knocked out on penalties.

A downcast Cesc Fabregas couldn’t hide his emotions in the studio with Rio Ferdinand and Alan Shearer as Spain were knocked out of the tournament.
