At the final whistle, the London derby between Chelsea and Arsenal finished 3-2 as Maurizio Sarri recorded his second consecutive league win. The frills and thrills as well as hits and misses in this game made it a pulsating and nervy encounter.
Here are 3 talking points from the game
ALONSO WINS IT FOR SARRI AND CHELSEA
At the end, Chelsea’s victory over Arsenal has given us the bragging rights against one of our rivals in the battle for the title and top four. The sight of left back, Marcos Alonso slotting the ball between Petr Cech’s legs to secure all three points for Chelsea was a sweet feeling for the fans. The fact the Gunners proved to be stubborn opponents during Conte’s reign was enough sound bite for Sarri to prepare his team to combat the North Londoners. The fact Chelsea outscored and outplayed Arsenal was a positive for everyone connected to the club.
CHELSEA’S DEFENSIVE WEAKNESSES EXPOSED BY ARSENAL
As sweet as Chelsea’s attacking play made the fans excited, the team’s defensive display was so awful that Unai Emery’s side came back on level terms from two goals down. The fact the Gunners were wasteful in converting their numerous chances masked their fluidity and ability to play through the channels between our central defenders and full backs. Sarri needs to do more on the training ground to get our defenders accustomed to playing in a back four again.
MORATA BREAKS HIS GOAL DROUGHT:
The sweet feeling of watching the Spanish striker run onto a pass, surge ahead of Mustafi with neat play and stroll the ball beyond Cech was gleeful for the Stamford Bridge faithful. After enduring a goal drought which had seen him score just once in the Premier League this calendar year, and three in total before the today’s game was demoralising. Add to the fact that he had struggled in games against the Gunners, sure the Spanish striker had a lot to do to break his ugly duck. Thankfully, he was able to shake it off, and hopefully the goals can start flowing.
Let’s keep the blue flag flying high. Cheers!
