Chelsea might have signed a rare gem in Mateo Kovacic, who joined the Blues on a one-year loan deal from Real Madrid during the summer transfer window.
The 24-year-old made his debut in the 3-2 win over Arsenal on Saturday evening, and he was in good form for the Blues.
With the scores at 2-2, Kovacic replaced Ross Barkley in the second half, and added spark to the game.
His introduction helped the hosts seize complete control of the game before Marcos Alonso netted the decisive goal late on.
Kovacic’s composure on the ball, work rate and intelligence was easily spotted, and his assurance on the ball marked a good debut performance.
The 24-year-old completed 100% of his 43 attempted passes against Arsenal during his half-hour on the pitch, and the only regret is he’s just a loan signing.
