Injury and a lack of form has kept Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley from the England national team, and the 24-year-old who seems to be enjoying a new lease of life under Maurizio Sarri has admitted he is happy with the new season.
After performing well in our opening-day win at Huddersfield, Barkley again did well at the weekend and went close to scoring on a couple of occasions. His first effort was a dipping left-footed drive which dropped just over the bar and then the second was tipped around the post by Petr Cech.
Barkley was asked if he has a good chance of catching the eye of Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate.
He responded: “I’ve just got to do what I can.
“I’m still learning and giving 100 per cent in training, trying to learn the new manager’s methods. Hopefully with my performances on the pitch I’ll be in the thoughts of the England manager.”
