Despite the Community Shield defeat to Manchester City on Sunday, Ross Barkley still had some positives to take from that game.
Barkley had an injury rampaged campaign last season and the midfielder went almost the entire season without being on the pitch.
However, Barkley started Sunday’s Community Shield defeat to Manchester City at Wembley, and he was pleased to complete the full match
“It was good to get 90 minutes, I felt good out there,” said the Chelsea midfielder.
“It wasn’t the result we wanted but we’ll keep working hard. We’re going into the season feeling much fitter and stronger after the pre-season we’ve had but it was a disappointing result.
“It would have been a confidence boost to get the win and go into the season feeling good, and with a trophy, but we’ve got to take the positives. We’re still learning, we’ve got a new manager and we’re still learning his methods. We’re trying to be an exciting attacking team so we have to take that forward into next week’s game and the season ahead.”
