Chelsea and Lyon played out a goalless draw before the Blues won the game on penalties in our final pre-season fixture at Stamford Bridge.

Maurizio Sarri made 11 changes to the side which started the Community Shield on Sunday as he gave opportunities to other players to impress. Goalkeeper Marcin Bulka, who has been impressive in pre-season so far, started in goal with Davide Zappacosta and Emerson selected as the two full-backs.

Danny Drinkwater, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tiemoue Bakayoko formed a midfield trio and up front Tammy Abraham was selected to lead the line. Willian and Victor Moses started out wide.

Having only returned to training yesterday following their involvement at the World Cup, Gary Cahill, N’Golo Kante, Eden Hazard, Michy Batshuayi and Olivier Giroud were all named among the subs, and they all had minutes apart from Batshuayi who is yet to taste action under Sarri.

The game ended goalless as both teams couldn’t find a way past the goalkeeper. Although Chelsea looked flat in the first half, the manager will take solace in the fact that his more experienced players delivered after coming on in the second half.

Rob Green who came on in the second half, was the hero as we beat Lyon on penalties in our final pre-season game of the summer.

After the first eight penalties had all been scored, Green guessed right – diving left – to deny Pape Cheikh Diop. Eden Hazard scored the following spot kick and the victory was ours.
