It’s been over six years since Chelsea defeated Newcastle at the St James Park, and the Blues will be away at the Magpies this evening.
The last time we got a win at Newcastle was in 2011, when Didier Drogba, Salomon Kalou and Daniel Sturridge scored in a 3-0 victory.
It’s been a tough ground for the Blues in recent years, and Cesar Azpilicueta is hoping that we can get a victory.
“We’ve had some bad experiences there and hopefully we can change that this season,” Azpilicueta said.
“The last couple of times we were not able to win at Newcastle and we know it’s a tough place but we have to show great character.
“We know we are facing a very good side, and a manager I know well, so obviously the target has to be to increase our level and be ready for them because we know they can be dangerous.
“Last year was disappointing in terms of the Premier League because we missed out on the Champions League, which is something Chelsea have played in regularly. We know every year is more complicated, other teams get stronger, so it’s up to us to raise the level.”
