This weekend brings the London derby game between Chelsea and Arsenal at Stamford Bridge. Here’s my preferred Chelsea starting eleven for the game:
GOALKEEPER – KEPA ARIZZABALAGA
The new signing keeps his place as his clean sheet against the Terriers last weekend gives him the nod over Willy Caballero and Rob Green. This is the kind of game that the young Spanish goalie must prove his worth and show he belongs among the best in his position.
RIGHT BACK – CESAR AZPILICUETA
The right back is now back to the position where he started. His defensive nous will be essential in keeping Mkhitaryan quiet. Also his contribution in the attacking areas by delivering pinpoint crosses for the forwards will be important.
LEFT BACK – MARCOS ALONSO
Keeping Ozil quiet might not be a big deal for Alonso as the German lacks the burst of pace and acceleration to wreck him. So, Alonso might be more needed to join the attack and supply an outlet in tandem with Hazard on the left channel to keep Hector Bellerin busy all evening.
RIGHT CENTRE BACK – DAVID LUIZ
David Luiz’s ball playing ability and mobility makes him a better option to Garry Cahiil, and his experience gives him the nod over Christensen. The fact he had preseason under his belt means he is more suited to Sarri’s style.
LEFT CENTREBACK – ANTONIO RUDIGER
The German’s no-nonsense approach to defending and his appetite in scoring from setpiece play might just be crucial in this game.
HOLDING MIDFIELD – JORGINHO
Undisputedly the preferred choice for this role as his both his technical ability and good reading of the game will be crucial in Chelsea’s buildup play.
LEFT CENTRAL MIDFIELDER – RUBEN LOFTUS-CHEEK
The academy product’s physicality and technical ability on the ball will ensure we don’t lose possession often, have a physical attacking presence behind Giroud, and will also provide protection to the back four.
RIGHT CENTRAL MIDFIELDER – N’GOLO KANTE
The French man will be crucial in breaking up Arsenal’s attacking play while also assisting in attack for the odd goal.
LEFT WINGER – EDEN HAZARD
The Belgium captain is Chelsea most dangerous player and will be needed to unsettle the Arsenal defence and be influential in the game.
RIGHT WINGER – PEDRO RODRIGUEZ
The Spanish winger goalscoring form at the moment helps him to edge Willian in the team. His pace and technical ability will be important.
STRIKER – OLIVIER GIROUD
The French man knows this Arsenal team more than anyone else and should know how and when to strike to gun them down. His physical play will also be crucial in giving Arsenal’s central defensive pairing a busy game.
You can also give your preferred starting eleven for the game in the comment zone. Let’s hope for the best. Cheers!
