While Manchester City game on Sunday showed that Chelsea still need to sign at least a striker before the start of the new season, recent development concerning Blues goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois shows that the club also need to let go of the Belgian and sign a new keeper.
According to reports, after Courtois returned from his holiday, he told Maurizio Sarri on Monday he wanted to leave the club and asked the manager to sanction his transfer to Real Madrid.
Chelsea had been frustrated in their attempts to secure a replacement for Courtois, and as a result were prepared to tell the Belgian he would be staying at Stamford Bridge.
Efforts to sign Jordan Pickford and Alisson have been unsuccessful, and now the club might have to break the bank to sign Jan Oblak from Atletico Madrid.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Chelsea will move to sign a new shot stopper before the transfer window closes, and have identified Atletico Madrid stopper Oblak as the priority target.
However, Oblak has a release clause of £89m.
Reports claim Courtois is desperate to return to Madrid to be closer to his daughter and Chelsea are now working to grant his wish before the close of the English transfer on Thursday. However, Chelsea won’t still sell him until a replacement has been signed.
