Olivier Giroud and Eden Hazard are trying to convince France international and Lyon star Nabil Fekir to join Chelsea this summer, according to Giroud.
Fekir was hours away from joining Liverpool in June only for the Ligue 1 outfit to withdraw from negotiations, and Giroud believes Fekir would be a great addition to the Chelsea squad.
“I spoke to him when we were together in the French national team, when his move to Liverpool fell through,” Giroud told Foot Mercato.
“Then we discussed Chelsea, and I even think that Eden said a couple of words to him.
“We would obviously welcome him, he is a super player, but I don’t know if this is something that could happen as the window closes on Thursday.”
After Chelsea beat Lyon via penalties in our final pre-season friendly on Tuesday, Lyon boss Bruno Genesio opened the door for Fekir to leave the club this summer.
When asked if Fekir was staying at Lyon this season, Genesio said, according to Evening Standard: “It’s too early to say. He wanted to leave at the end of last season, but came back to training [on Monday] and was happy.
“There may be opportunities that come up before the end of the window. For now, he is a Lyon player.”
