N’Golo Kante played his first game under new manager Maurizio Sarri as the Blues could only get a draw against Lyon and the game was won in penalties.
During games, Jorginho is usually seen giving instructions to players and he regulates their move from deep.
Kante, who played a more pragmatic football under Antonio Conte where he was famed for cutting team’s play and breaking down opposition attack. But we saw a different dimension from the Frenchman against Lyon as he was utilized in a different way.
Jorginho is usually the deepest of Chelsea’s midfield three and after Kante came on in the second half, he immediately urged him to push further up and instructed him to make a run in behind the defence. It didn’t take too long for Jorginho to put Kante through on goal and Kante was one-on-one with the keeper within seconds, though his effort was pushed away for a corner.
Sarri’s starting XI is beginning to take shape, and Kante might play a further role upfront with Jorginho playing from deep.
