Chelsea summer signing Jorginho set a new Chelsea record for passes in a single Premier League game in the 2-1 win over Newcastle at the St James Park.

The Italian had a good game as he dictated play from the midfield stringing passes from deep as Chelsea sought to break down a difficult Rafa Benitez side.

Jorginho set an incredible record in the game as he completed 86 passes out of a possible 92 in the first half (93.5%), 19 more than the whole Newcastle side combined (67).

The 25-year-old proved again that he’s king of Sarri-ball as he made 158 successful passes. This is a new record for most successful passes by a Chelsea player in the Premier League as Jorginho has surpassed Chelsea’s previous pass master, Cesc fabregas who completed 144 passes against West Brom four years ago.

Chelsea enjoyed over 80% possession in this game, and Jorginho was at the centre of everything.

Ilkay Gundogan holds the most Premier passes in a single, as he completed 167 passes against Chelsea last season. Jorginho’s 158 passes is number 5 on the all time Premier League record.
