Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic is set to become a Chelsea player, as the Blues have agreed a deal with Madrid to bring the 24-year-old to Stamford Bridge on a season-long loan deal.
The midfielder travelled to London to join Chelsea on loan for a season without a purchase option.
He was put in the deal that saw Thibaut Courtois move to Real Madrid, with both sides reaching an agreement.
Kovacic arrived at Los Blancos in the summer of 2015 from Inter in a deal estimated at 31 million euros, two years after the neroazzurro paid 11m euros to Dinamo Zagreb for his services.
Kovacic, 24, expressed his desire to leave Real Madrid in search of first-team football during the World Cup.
He was part of Croatia’s squad that reached the final of the World Cup in Russia.
According to Chelsea, the deal will be confirmed after Courtois reach a personal agreement with Los Blancos and passes his medical with the Spanish giants.
