After many years of voicing his desire to move to Real Madrid, Thibaut Courtois was finally been granted his dream move, but it has been to the anger of Chelsea fans who now see him as a traitor.
The Belgian has always spoken about his desire to be with his daughters in Madrid, and chose not to return to Chelsea’s pre-season following an impressive World Cup campaign in Russia.
Although Chelsea fans are angry with Courtois for forcing a move away from the club, Maurizio Sarri chose not to see it this way as he believes Courtois left the club for family reasons.
Asked about Courtois’ behaviour, Sarri responded: “I don’t know. I think there were some personal reasons, so I cannot go on personal reasons.”
Courtois’ exit subsequently led Chelsea to sign Kepa Arrizabalaga, 23, from Athletic Bilbao for a world-record £71.6million fee, and Sarri hopes the young goalkeeper will go on to be amazing for the club.
