Chelsea were close to sealing a 1-0 victory over Arsenal at the Aviva Stadium until substitute Alexandre Lacazette struck with the last kick of the game to send the match into penalties.
Antonio Rudiger was left unmarked from a corner and rose highest to head into the bottom corner five minutes into the game.
Chelsea could have doubled their lead when they were awarded a penalty after the exciting Callum Hudson-Odoi was tripped by Hector Bellerin and Alvaro Morata was handed the responsibility from the spot, but his poor penalty couldn’t go past Petr Cech who got down to keep it out.
Alexandre Lacazette levelled the scores with the last kick of the game, and Arsenal won the game in penalties.
Speaking after the game, Sarri revealed he was happy with the performance. He said: “We had our first training on 16 July. We were late compared to Arsenal’s physical condition.
“We did very well in the first half. We made a mistake in the last minute, but I’m really happy with the performance.”
