Although Chelsea got the victory over Newcastle at St James Park, it was indeed a difficult game for the Blues in a ground we haven’t won since 2011.

Rafael Benitez set his side in a defensive formation as he lined his team up in a 5-4-1system.

Maurizio Sarri who knew Benitez from his time in Italy was surprised at the way Benitez set his team to face Chelsea.

“We knew it’s a difficult game here, especially for us but for every team,” said the Italian.

“Last season Chelsea, Man United and Arsenal all lost here so I don’t think it’s easy to play here against this opponent.

“In Italy I’ve never seen Rafa play with five defenders, so low and compact. It was difficult but we needed to move the ball faster and be patient.

“To be drawing five minutes from the end, it was even more difficult. From the character point of view this is a strong team.”
