Chelsea have been without a technical director since Michael Emenalo retired from the position last season.
Club director Marina Granovskaia has been in charge of transfers and has taken control of incoming and outgoing deals in the past two transfer windows since Emenalo’s departure.
Two former Blues stars Juliano Belletti and Michael Ballack are believed to be in the frame for the post, with Marina Granovskaia taking charge of the search for our new technical director. The 2009/10 title winners are believed to have been mentioned by the Chelsea board about the vacant position.
However, with Chelsea’s summer business yet to be concluded – with several players still expected to leave, the appointment will come after the close of the transfer window in other top leagues in Europe, which is August 31.
New manager Maurizio Sarri is keen to work closely with whoever is appointed, which may favour a candidate who can speak Italian.
With Manchester United also in search of a technical director, Roma director of football Monchi is on both clubs’ shortlists, according to the Guardian.
Dan Ashworth, technical director at the FA is also in the frame for the vacant Chelsea job.
