Mateo Kovacic was a surprise deadline signing for Chelsea as the Blues managed to sign the Real Madrid midfielder on loan as part of the Thibaut Courtois deal that saw our goalkeeper move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Kovacic is yet to feature for the Blues and the London derby clash against Arsenal on Saturday might be the perfect time for the Croatian to make his debut, but Maurizio Sarri isn’t quite sure the 24-year-old’s fitness level is up to speed.
He said in his press conference: “Mateo will be very useful for us. He is a very technical player. At the moment he has to work. He is not ready now for 90 minutes, but maybe tomorrow, for the first or last 30 minutes, he can be used. I expect a lot from him because for me he is a very good player, and in my opinion he can improve more.
“He can play in the three midfield positions, centre right or centre left, it’s the same for him. He’s a very good offensive player, and he has improved in the defensive phase in the last two years in Madrid.”
