Chelsea’s defence looked vulnerable in the 3-2 win over Arsenal on Saturday but Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri insists he won’t revert to a back five to solve the problem at the back.
Sarri insists Chelsea defenders need time to adapt to the demands of his style of play.
“For a defender it’s more difficult to play in my team after only 20 days of training,” Sarri said, referring to Gary Cahill, who has lost his place in the side after returning late to preseason after the World Cup.
“It’s easier I think for offensive players, but for defensive players it’s more difficult.”
When asked whether he might consider switching back to the system used by Conte ahead of this weekend’s games against Newcastle, Sarri replied: “No. I used five [defenders] years ago, but it’s not my way.”
