It’s the Reds against the Blues in the Carabao Cup third round as Jurgen Klopp and Maurizio Sarri battle against each other at Anfield on Wednesday night.  With Liverpool currently the league leaders and also high-flying, this game might just be the perfect test for Chelsea in order to know how far things are working under Sarri. This clash promises to be entertaining and exciting. Can Chelsea upset Klopp and the Kops?

Here are 3 ways Chelsea can beat Liverpool:

The Jurgen Klopp revolution has seen Liverpool overcome several hurdles to emerge as title contenders. Appearances in the both European Cup finals – the Champions League and Europa League are evidences of the German tactician’s impact at Anfield. Shrewd transfer business during the summer has turned The Reds into a formidable team and one that can beat any team on its day.  While in South West London, Sarri’s transformation is about changing Chelsea’s identity from being pragmatic to artistic. With Liverpool blowing red hot, Chelsea best chances of winning the game is to starve and deprive Liverpool of ball possession while also using it to great effect, especially in dangerous areas of the pitch. Starving Liverpool of possession will force them to do their usual high-pressing, thereby leaving spaces behind their midfield for Chelsea to exploit.

The major talking point of our last two games has bothered on our profligacy – inability to kill games by scoring the chances we create. Against PAOK Salonica in the Europa League and also against West Ham this past Sunday, we failed to convert chances in both games due to bad decision-making in playing the killer final pass or scoring the killer goal. We let our opponents off the hook, and at Anfield on Wednesday, such profligacy might just be so costly. Taking our chances will be crucial in this tie to give us the edge to win.

While the team has been brilliant in attacking play, the major concern has been our defensive sloppiness in games. Just a reminder, Liverpool’s attacking triumvirate is one of the deadliest both in the league and in Europe, and they might not be so forgiving if presented with gifts by Chelsea’s defence. Putting in a rock-solid and error-free performance will create the base upon which Chelsea can run riot against Liverpool to advance to the next stage of this cup competition.

Let’s keep the Blue flag flying high. Cheers!
