Chelsea youngster Ethan Ampadu has signed a contract extension that will see him stay at Stamford Bridge until the 2023.
Even though Ampadu is yet to make an appearance for Chelsea this season under Maurizio Sarri, the Italian thinks highly of Ampadu and expects the 18-year-old to become a world-class talent in future.
The 18-year-old Wales international, who can play in defence and midfield, made seven appearances for Chelsea last season under Antonio Conte.
There have been calls recently from Chelsea fans around the world for Ampadu to play more for Chelsea after his man-of-the-match performance in Wales 4-1 victory over Republic of Ireland, his competitive debut for Wales.
Ampadu admitted he was proud and happy to extend his Chelsea contract until 2023 and promised to continue working harder.’
“I’m really proud and happy. I’m looking forward to the next five years and all I have got to do now is continue to work hard, and hopefully good things will happen,” Ampadu told Chelsea’s official website.
Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia added: “Ethan has shown great potential and unbelievable maturity since arriving at Chelsea a year ago.
“In this short time he convinced a lot of people with his exceptional quality and mentality and we look forward to watching him develop into a key player for the club over the coming years.”
Ampadu joined Chelsea from Exeter City in the summer of 2017 and made his Chelsea debut in a Carabao Cup third round win against Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge that same year.
Ampadu became the first player born after the turn of the Millennium to start a game for Chelsea after he started Chelsea’s fourth round Carabao Cup win over Everton in 2017.
Big things are expected from the 18-year-old and it is expected he would become a key player for Chelsea in the near future.
